Hi,
I am going to buy a new house. After I sign the contract, they start to build. If I want everywhere wood floors instead of carpets then I need to pay more $8000+tax. Can I go directly with builder instead of agent to get a better/cheaper deal? Or I should use those new carpets for couple years and then change them to wood floor…will it cheaper if I buy material at home depot and hire someone to install?

OK, we are planning to cut a pass through with a bar in the wall between our dining room and kitchen. On the dining room side the walls are drywall; on the kitchen side they are wood paneling. We would like the interior of the pass through area to be drywall but we unsure how the drywall of the interior could meet the paneling in the kitchen. Could we just tape and mud the corner like we will on the dining room side? The alternative is to just use wood trim but we would really prefer the smooth look of drywall. Has anyone done this before?

ANDIE asked:

We have antique white (off-white) trim inside the house. The walls are painted caramel and lighter shades of that. The exterior of our house is sand (tan) with white window trim. I found some relatively inexpensive white faux wood blinds at Home Depot that they cut while you wait. Should I go with those white ones to match the exterior trim or should I go with off-white to be the same color as the interior trim? Thanks.

Or will the oil eventually soak in or dry? If it will remain oily between oiling, and the surface is not needed for food prep, what is a standard way to finish the oiled wood to preserve the look but make it more general purpose? Polyurethane?

I just got a new chest of drawers. My wife plans to put her sweaters in them. We’ve had problems with moths in the closet, so we used little mothball bags in the closet. I just found out that cedar wood is a natural moth repellant. I found some cedar wood balls in the hardware store. How do I use it? One ball per drawer? How long does it last? Do I need to replace them or “recharge” them after a few years? Thanks for the help.

I’ve seen on TV shows where you can paint wood and use a spray bottle of water to water down the paint and make it more like a stain. How do I do this?

I’m having trouble matching the stain color on quarter-rounds to the cabinet. I’m thinking it might be easier to do it with paint and use this spray water technique. Is it easy? Is this a good idea? Is there any resources to tell me how to do this?
