wood
abc_def asked:

We have a heavy door mounted with 3 hinges to a soft wood frame. The door was improperly blocked open with the result that the screws were pulled from the soft wood frame. The screws no longer “bite” into the wood and they cannot be tightened. Are expansion plugs like “molly” the only solution to this? Or, can the ***** holes be filled with a wood like material to allow the wood screws to be used again?

Stick wooden toothpicks into the holes. Break them off flush with the surface. Then replace the screws and they should hold.

an old carpenter trick is to use golf tees [ they are made from a very hard dense wood]. insert them into the ***** holes , break them off so they dont stick out and reinstall screws . if this doesnt work use longer screws whihch will extend past door frame into 2×4 . good luck

A cheap trick… take round toothpicks, coat with Elmers glue, jam into hole,it should take at least three per hole…jam them in, after glue dries take your knife and cut off excess.
put your screws in, so that they go in the middle of each group of toothpicks……
