used colorations of dark and light wood colored paint and take sand paper and rough it up and the crackle paint works too it just doesn’t stay well

I heard that rattling a chain against the raw wood pits and dings the wood up quite a bit. Then I hear there is a special varnish that actually simulates antique crackle. I hear it is used on paintings.

i tried this on my draws and the effect was very good.

Sand down the wood. Paint it a cream colour on the bass first.Let it dry then get a thick candle and rub the areas were you think there would be signs of aging ie edges joins crackes just rub as much of it with candle as you like.Next paint it all with white paint. Then when its dry get some sand paper and rub down gently the areas that you had put the candle.Just rub enough for the colour cream colour to show. After varnish gloss or matt to prevent any more paint coming off.
If you don`t like my idea then just use a product called Scumble Glase.dose the same affect but costs more.good luck.
