What types of wood can be used for exterior projects?

I know the obvious ones: cedar, cypress, redwood, but what other types of wood are suitable for outdoor projects? A friend of mine mills his own lumber and we’re going to start building different outdoor products, but aren’t entirely sure what types of wood can be used.

You don’t give many specifics so I’m not sure what you intend to make, where you are or the kind of wood you have available locally.Different woods for different things ya know. You might start with some of these links They have been useful to me;

Of course there’s always the search engines. I just entered “wood uses” into yahoo! search and saw several that appeared to address your question.
