Doesn’t this song give you shivers down your spine?!!! Love it! Not heard this song for such a long time - thanks for posting!
“heaven is not behind the clouds, its for us to find..Here…” poignant..i like it..
This is BY FAR my favorite “Christmas” song. It makes you think, if this holiday can stop wars and make sworn enemies sing together, it must be a good thing.
Happy holidays to all of you.
I love this song and I can’t watch it without tearing up as well. Someone very very dear to me is a Marine and this song just makes me weep to think of the sacrifices they have made and I am glad to know that others support them as much as I do. Thank you Garth and all others who support.
Remember, many Americans joined the French because the US had not been involved as yet. However, this song really doesn’t indicate who the soldiers were;he nevers said the main charactor of the song was American.A battle DID occur just outside Belleau Wood, but like previously stated, not necessarily the Christmas Truce battle.Too bad we feel the need to kill one another over stupid stuff.I think it’s why I can’t listen to this song with tearing up.I know sappy, but hey,I’m soft over war and death.
This song nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it!
“Here’s hoping we both live to see us find a better way”
first time i heard it was in social studies class.loved it since!
The truce began as a way to burry the dead. It led to much more however and much of whats described in this song and the sonf The christmas truce is true. However the event was not universal and fighting did continue in some areas. Also the truce ranged anywhere from a day to several days depending on where it occured.
In 1915 there were a few very isolated incidents of this but never like it had been in 1914. And never again after that
I don;t write this to deminish the event or the song. I love this song always have but the title in reality has nothing to do with the historic event.
Sadly in todays wars this is an event we will likely never see again. God Bless all the men and women who serve this country and who are away from their families this holiday season.
It is true a christmas truce did occur but as planecrazzy said it was 1914. No Americans whatsoever unless serving in the military of another country took part in the Christmas truce. Though there were a few isolated incidents in 1915, 1914 was the main year this occurred and it was still not universal even then.
The Battle of Bellau Woods did not occur until 1918 and was in June of that year. By christmas 1918 the war had ended.
its amazing what one song, one voice can do. It can bring peace in the midst of war
