[#4] Billy Roberts/Jimi Hendrix cover live at Umbria Jazz Festival 31.Dec.2001 in Italy (thanks to JSouth) Marc Ribot (guitar), John Medeski (organ), Billy Martin (drums), Chris Wood (bass)
wood solid
amazing, how could someone say it isn’t..,
I have and did enjoy it very much!!! But this is crap pure crap!
did you ever listen to any other MMW stuff? This isn’t my favorite peice of them either, but they truly have some great work on their conto.
oh Im sorry your right…..Now do you feel better? Good now drink all your milk and go to bed.
I love it when uneducated “musicians” talk sooooooo much crap. MM&W are very highly respected jazz musicians. What was your latest release ded? Also, as rosko correctly stated, this was at a jazz festival. the people the attend this type of event are into this. Please stick to what you know.
The fact that your defending them as if their great musicans does not make it so, face it their Lazy musicans at best! Jazz thats what you call jazz!!! More like slop, I could go to any high school and find you four 16 yr olds that could “play circles” around these cats! so stick that in your bong and smoke it kiddo! And as for playing circles round me I dont think so. The only good thing these guys ever did was turnd their amps off!
Jeez, what a loser. You know, kiddo, I bet Jimi would’ve actually enjoyed this performance. If you don’t like experimental jazz, fair enough, but I bet these guys could play circles around you (assuming you even play). It’s a JAZZ festival, what did you expect anyway, for them to light their instruments on fire?
BTW folks, this isn’t technically a Hendrix song, it was written by folk singer Billy Roberts.
Partially agreed (watched the whole thing too)
well….I sat through the 8 minuts of this waiting on something cool 2 happend…but nothing it just ****** these guys need 2 give it up! I have listend 2 high school jazz bands that sound better! They should leave Jimi’s stuff outa there set list. that or insted just call it “HEY CRAP”!
Smokin’. The way the tune initially unfolds adds suspense as you wonder what the always unpredictable Ribot will do. He doesn’t disappoint. Great performance.
no its not the same. just listened to them both…theres probably 500 songs that have a similar riff.. but medeski obviously takes it further.
Scofield is good, obviously one of the most accomplished jazz guitarists of the last 20 years, but he doesn’t have a quarter of Ribot’s creativity and originality. Marc is the only guitarist who really fits with MMW. Scofield was good, Anastasio stunk the times he sat inbut Ribot is the best. He “gets it”.
Wie immer ein Riesenspaß mit Ribot! Danke, Holger!
(Like always a great fun with Ribot! Thanks, Holger!)
Ribot is Ribot, Scofield is Scofield, they both have their own style, no possible comparaison.
