Newport Jazz Festival, Rhode Island (1997) John Medeski (organ), Billy Martin (drums), Chris Wood (bass) http://www.mmw.net
wood floors
I was not kidding, and i think cohen is far far away from chris on technique and even on his playing style, sorry not to share your opinion, even though i really like chris as a musician! thanks for discussing, and i agree on you in something: portnoy IS THE BEST
you’re kidding right? chris wood is one of the better contemporary upright players out there. i’d put him up there with avishai cohen, django bates, and some of those guys.
thanks god chris wood grabbed the electric bass… the acoustic still big for him, solo was no big deal and pretty untidy, maybe it’s his style, i respect him a lot but didn’t like this that much
Imagine seeing them with Morphine. WOW! The next day I went & got the CD.
I wish i was medeski martin and wood.
all at the same time.
WORD!
he’s probably my favorite drummer.
there’s really just nothing like him.
the style, the sound, the … yeah, he’s just amazing
i love how all the stoned hippies do the same dance!!! lol
Billy Martin is mental! He’s an animal! He’s GOD!!
“check the elarier stuff- ‘Notes from the Underground,’”
Check out the Dostoevsky book too
one of the best chris wood solos, which puts it up there with the best bass solos ever. remind me of pharaoh’s dance
That’s all you need in keyboards, A Hammond B-3 (or in this case a C-3) Organ, a Hohner D6 Clavinet, and a Wurlitzer 200 Electric Piano (or Fender Rhodes)
check the elarier stuff- “Notes from the Underground,” “It’s a Jungle in Here” etc- for some more jazz influenced jammin’ from tjhese guys.
Wish I was there….good food and even better music!!
I love these guys here. I met them through scofield’s a go go and then i immediatly bought out louder which is a fantastic piece of art. On the other hand i got a bit dissapoited with the trio albuns. They tend to jam too much for me. I was looking for some stronger jazzish melodies that i can’t found on their songs. Don’t get me wrong. I really love them and their great musicians. But i definitely prefer their work with scofield.
Would’ve loved to see more of Chris Wood’s solo than hamburgers, but still great video:) MMW rocks
hell yeah! i wasn’t sure, thats fucken awesome
